Aiming to develop qualified human resources in multidisciplinary fields such as aviation, space, and defense in line with the needs of the Defense Industry sector, the Department of Defense Technologies offers education opportunities at four different academic levels:

• Master’s Program with Thesis: Designed for students who wish to specialize in research, development, and system design within the field of defense technologies. Students may take courses from the subprograms of Information Technologies, Strategy Development Technologies, Energy Technologies, Materials, Design and Manufacturing Technologies, and Autonomous Systems, gaining interdisciplinary expertise.
• Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program: Structured to support in-depth academic research in defense technologies within a multidisciplinary framework. It combines engineering, natural sciences, and social sciences to foster researchers capable of producing innovative, research-driven, and strategic solutions.
• Non-Thesis Master’s Program in Business Administration: Tailored for professionals working or aiming to work in management, strategy, project management, and technology management roles within the defense industry. The program emphasizes practical applications and case studies that enhance leadership, decision-making, and strategic management skills.
• Undergraduate Minor Program: Offers students from various engineering or basic science disciplines the opportunity to gain additional expertise in defense technologies. It provides a solid foundation for those aiming to pursue careers in the defense and aerospace sectors or to continue at the graduate level.

This program is conducted as a university–industry collaboration between Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), with contributions from Boeing. The master’s education provided within TUSAŞ Academy aims to develop competencies in advanced technologies and modern applications in the fields of aircraft structures and material technologies, as well as to cultivate qualified human resources in these areas. Under this program, the academic expertise of faculty members from ITU, MIT, Cranfield, the University of Washington, and the University of Michigan is combined with the experience of senior specialists from TUSAŞ and Boeing, one of the world’s leading aerospace companies.

“Aviation management” can be defined as the intersection of aeronautical engineering and the specialized fields of industry, business, economics, and technology management related to aviation. The Air Transportation Management Master’s Program aims to train qualified and well-educated personnel who possess in-depth knowledge of the aviation sector and can meet the needs of airline companies. The curriculum is designed to provide students with courses that will enhance their managerial, financial, and analytical skills related to air transportation.

In Turkey, significant progress has been achieved in air transportation, led by Turkish Airlines and supported by the participation of many private airline companies. Despite this growth, there remains a clear shortage of well-trained and qualified professionals in line with international standards. Through the Air Transportation Management Master’s Program, engineers and managers with comprehensive sectoral knowledge will be educated to address this need and to contribute qualified professionals to the industry.

The primary objective of the program is to develop the capability to carry out the conceptual and detailed design of a rotary-wing aircraft (helicopter) defined for a specific mission, as well as to plan its production and complete its certification process.

The mission of the program is to provide internationally recognized graduate-level education in the field of “rotorcraft design” within engineering disciplines such as aerospace, mechanical, electrical, electronics, and industrial engineering. It aims to educate creative and environmentally conscious engineers who are capable of conducting design, manufacturing, application, and R&D studies, and who can transfer their knowledge and experience to serve the nation and humanity as future leaders in engineering.
